In the streets of Rome, Milan, Pisa, the three cities involved in the e-mobility project Italy, developed by the Enel Group and Daimler, the smart fortwo electric cars are now actually driving.

The delivery of 100 vehicles to drivers selected among over 2,000 candidates and companies that have joined the project has begun, along with the installation of charging stations in homes, offices and public workplaces.

The electric smart cars began to be delivered in the summer of 2010 to the selected drivers in the three cities involved, together with the card that identifies the customer and allows him to charge his vehicle at his garage and any public station. The innovative electric smart can run 160 kms between refills, perfectly suitable for the needs of urban mobility, driving at a self-limited speed of 100 km/h.

The electric smart is sought not only by private citizens, but also by companies. At the latest edition of the Bologna Motor Show, where the project was announced in 2008, Enel and Smart handed electric vehicles to UGF, Autostrade, Mediaset, McDonald's Italy, Vodafone and other companies that included the vehicles of the e-mobility Italy project in their vehicle fleet.

Together with the electric cars, the project supplies the infrastructure for smart charging stations to be used by the drivers of the 100 smart fortwo electric drives. Home stations and Public stations can communicate with the cars, recognize them and charge them easily and safely. At present, this network is unique in the world: 400 charging stations in Rome, Milan and Pisa are being installed by Enel technicians in public places, and private garages of participants and of involved car companies after having studied the best solutions and assessed the needs of each individual case. This way it’s possible to create a constant relationship with customers and to apply innovative functions for recharge management.
